Helping fundraise £3m for refurbishment and new accommodation

The community of priests at the Oxford Oratory was in the unusual position of having more applicants to join them than it was possible to house. Therefore plans were drawn up to build a new accommodation block providing more bedrooms for priests and the many visitors to the Oratory. Adjoining the new-build was an older structure which had served as the church’s parish room. With new insulation and heating system, this building was to provide space for a completely refurbished parish room, kitchen, bar, and a new parish office on the ground floor. The upper floor was to be converted into a new library with a mezzanine level to provide extra space. Stefan Lipa Fundraising Consultancy assisted the Oratory to raise sufficient funds to commence building in 2012 - the new building was completed by June 2013.

The fundraising campaign also raised enough funds to restore and provide new energy-efficient lighting in the Sanctuary; clean and repair the 52 beautiful statues of the Reredos behind the High Altar; repair the church flooring; restoring the Lady Chapel and Relic Chapel; as well as installing the Shrine of the Blessed John Henry Newman.

Support for the campaign was widespread throughout the parish and elsewhere. Approximately £3 million was raised – a testament to the importance which a large number of people attach to the work of the community of priests at the Oxford Oratory and their dedication to their pastoral role.
