Enabling the theatre to modernise through a fundraising campaign

If you had been to the ‘old’ Theatre Royal, you would have soon realized why a development campaign was required! Any person of above average height found the seating very uncomfortable and there were very few facilities available in the foyer. Stefan Lipa fundraising Consultancy assisted Winchester Theatre Fund (which owned the building) with an intensive period of consultancy in the first instance, reducing involvement once the campaign was established. The initial target of £2 million was substantially exceeded and funds raised (including a substantial Lottery grant) amounted to more than £5 million, enabling the re-development of the Theatre site. A next-door shop building was incorporated into a new foyer area, new seating and ventilation was installed and the backstage amenities for performers and storage were improved dramatically. A visit is highly recommended!
